WHAT WE DO
Education
MAYEIN champions inclusive education, and is committed to flagging education centered initiatives targeted at impacting underserved children and early youths through community-based access to literacy resources and in school projects.
The Oyo e-Literacy Project

Initiated in January 2020, the goal is to impact 10,000 school children with digital literacy over a 5-year period. Currently over 1,500 schoolchildren across 25+ public schools in more than 6LGAs in Oyo State, have gained basic computer literacy through the Project.
The Teachers Hub
More Info
MAYEIN Teachers’ Hub is a fully equipped digital training space dedicated to the continuous professional development of school teachers and also for upskilling them in ICT. The goal is to empower teachers to adopt technology and improved pedagogies for better classroom delivery as well as for teaching students remotely (online) and during emergencies
School-based Clubs
More Info
Our adoption of school-based clubs is premised on the position that when exposed to learning through playful, peer-led and practical (3Ps) sessions, girls and school children not only grasp numerous life-skills and leadership concepts within safe spaces but in addition they become effective peer educators in schools, homes and communities. MAYEIN has therefore established a network of clubs through our various programs:
- Boys and Girls for Democracy is a democracy club aimed at keeping students continuously engaged in positive civic experiences and democracy learning activities. In 2019, MAYEIN implemented a Participatory Budgeting Project across 3 Secondary schools in Oyo State, successfully training 400 students on how to take part in their school spending and democratic decision making through elections.
- Mobile Library in Schools offers a vibrant selection of non-academic books housed within a mobile library van which allows children and teenagers to explore the world of literature, borrow books, and develop a reading habit that ensures a continuous rotation of books, with bi-weekly club discussions facilitated by dedicated staff and volunteers. Over 700 average-performing public secondary school students have improved their reading habits and strengthened their overall literacy skills.
- Girls’ Without Borders – MAYEIN operates a network of girl-centered school clubs called ‘Girls’ Without Borders’ across 15 secondary schools in Oyo State, Nigeria. Through girl-centered activities, schoolgirls are trained in goal setting, decision making, leadership and other essential life skills so that they can self-advocate for their rights, influence their peers positively and practice higher agency in their schools, and communities.
Internships, and workplace practicums
More Info
MAYEIN organizes internships and practicum-driven work placements for students across secondary schools and tertiary institutions. This is intended to bridge work experience gaps and drill pathways for young people to directly understudy and gain practical know-how in specific workplace areas thus gaining in-demand job readiness and relevant employability skills
National Literacy Competition
More Info
We also organize a national literacy competition to commemorate the World Book and Copyright Day each year. Our signature “Book-A-Thon” competition and engaging literacy activities ignite teenagers’ passion for reading, instill good book handling practices, and encourage them to become lifelong learners who will grow into a community of transformed minds ready to drive future innovative impact.
GENDER EQUITY
MAYEIN is dedicated to empowering women and girls with the necessary tools and knowledge to reach their full potential and advocate for policies that dismantle barriers to girls’ education.
The Oyo School Girls General Assembly
More Info
Annually we organize a parliamentary-styled formal dialogue session in which secondary school girls in Oyo State are trained to directly engage education planners and decision-makers on issues affecting girls’ education and express their needs and challenges in education. The innovative project empowers schoolgirls to directly exercise their agentic roles and influence gender-responsive planning and decision making within education in Oyo State.
Gender Inclusion in Green Economy Roles (Project GINGER)
More Info
This program tackles poverty, unemployment and environmental sustainability by equipping young women from low-income families and marginalized communities with the knowledge and practical experience needed to thrive in careers and businesses that respect the environment. Participants acquire valuable knowledge through instructor-led workshops covering various green economy sectors and through hands-on experience, refine their skills and gain a real-world understanding of the green job and business market within Nigeria’s growing eco-friendly sector. The program aspires to transform young women into passionate advocates who are actively involved in protecting our planet. In February, MAYEIN launched its Adire and Batik training program for five women in the Alaka community.

Mentoring and Youth Learning meet-ups (YLM)

One of our flagship mentoring initiatives is MAYEIN’s monthly “Youth Learning Meet-up” (YLM) for young adults, which alternates between peer-peer mentoring and formal guest mentoring. MAYEIN adopts both formal mentoring and Peer-Peer mentoring approaches in engaging young people towards personal development, leadership, and even skills outcomes. These forms of mentoring are effective in prodding self-reflection amongst growing teenagers and youth, eliciting genuine questions and experience-borne responses and insights from formal mentors or even peers.
Drive inclusive quality education through critical combined stakeholder approaches, riding learning resource gaps and supporting teacher’s development
Enhance integration of gender responsiveness within formal education systems and practices through research, advocacy and capacity strengthening
Foster civic readiness amongst young people through practical and participatory initiatives in school, community and other settings
